Can you help Roo?

You may recognise Roo, The American Bulldog cross. She was brought to us at CDCH in 2021 after she was rescued from a home where she had been previously mistreated.

Roo has been in a foster home since arriving with us, and it soon became apparent that she suffered from osteoarthritis and has regular hydrotherapy to help keep her comfortable.

The hydrotherapy, as well as all Roo’s care, is paid for by the centre.

Roo had been doing really well with the help of CDCH, her sponsors, and of course her foster family.

Sadly, not long after Christmas, Roo started to demonstrate some concerning behaviours including drinking more, raised appetite, and being generally more unsettled. Thanks to Roo’s foster family noticing this out of character behaviour, a trip to our vet Mo was needed.

Mo began to run tests and investigate further.

During these investigations, we noticed that she had also started to also lose weight and this raised serious concern about the possibility that something more serious was going on.

Following expert veterinary advice, Roo was quickly referred for imaging, including scans and X-rays.

This gave us the news we had been dreading; they found a mass on her spleen.

Roo went in for surgery at Vale Vets, where the veterinary team performed a full splenectomy.

This involved removing her whole spleen and sending it to the lab for testing.

Sadly, the results came back with cancer. This is obviously devastating news, but we are pleased to share that it has been assessed as a low-grade sarcoma and non-aggressive.

We are hopeful that we caught the mass early enough, and removed the whole spleen in time to stop the cancer from spreading. However, there is a small chance that the cancer could return further down the line.

Roo’s foster said, “Roo handled the investigations and surgery incredibly well and is now back to enjoying her usual walks and snuggling up on the sofa.”

DONATE TO HELP ROO

We are asking for your support to help us, not only with Roo’s ongoing medical bills but also to recoup some of the expenses incurred during her investigations and surgery. If you are able to make a donation to Roo please donate, no donation is too small, and we value all your support.

 SPONSOR ROO

You can also sponsor Roo for as little as £10 per month. This will ensure Roo’s ongoing medical bills are covered so that she can continue to live a happy, comfortable life.

In return, we will send you a welcome pack and regular pupdates from Roo herself.
