'The Running Viking' Running To Raise Funds For Animals In Need

'The Viking Runner' who is known to his friends as Sam, has been running for a very important reason - to support animals in need.

Sam took it upon himself to complete a half marathon not only to raise funds for The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, but to also support Teckles, another local animal rescue centre.

Sam contacted us recently and told us about his plans to run to raise money for both of the local charities. This really touched our hearts that he wanted to support us both. The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home and Teckles share the same mission so to hear that we would be thought of together was just wonderful.

Since the pandemic our income has seen a hit. With our shops being closed for several months and fundraising events being cancelled the support of people like Sam is so important!

Here is a message from Sam about his mission;

'I decided to do the solo half marathon fundraiser for both The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home and Teckels because I was due to run the Stroud half marathon, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

I chose these two awesome charities, because Teckels will always have a special place in my heart for looking after Roxy for such a great amount of time, and were so helpful by working with us to make sure she was properly cared. I also chose The Cotswold Dogs & Cats Home as they are another fantastic dog and cat rescue shelter that do so much great work for our four legged friends!

As I mentioned, I was due to run the Stroud half marathon to fundraise for these 2 charities, but that was called of due to the current circumstances, but me being me, I had trained so hard to get to be able to run this sort of distance that I didn't want it to go to waste. I decided to run a half marathon by myself! People left, right, and centre came together to not only support me, but to also help me out with donations etc.

I am an animal lover by all means, but dogs are something that I will forever work hard to help as much as I possibly can! They don't ask for anything, and they will always give you everything, so a little running wouldn't hurt me!'

Sam has already completed his half marathon! He ran around Stroud completing his run in an amazing time on Sunday 27th September 2020. If you would like to show your support there is still time to donate to the fundraiser (half going to The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home and half to Teckles). You can donate HERE.

On behalf of the staff and animals here at The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home - THANK YOU SAM!! We really appreciate your support!
