SUPPORTED ADOPTION SCHEME

What is SAS?

We often see cases of healthy elderly pets over the age of 8 years old or animals that require ongoing physiotherapy, drugs or treatment. Few prospective adopters are willing to take them on because of the possible financial implications or additional costs.  We have set up SAS to help cut the cost of routine veterinary care for your new pet and we can also offer grants for help to pay for any unforeseen veterinary costs.

Supported Adoption Scheme is only available on selected animals at the centre.

How does Supported Adoption work?

Prior to adoption all dogs and cats will be fully health checked, vaccinated, treated for fleas, wormed, micro-chipped, and neutered. Some older animals require regular treatments and medicines.  If the animal has an ongoing health problem the cost of treatment will be considered at the time of adoption and a subsidised monthly payment will be agreed with the adopter to cover these costs.

For an agreed monthly fee the SAS adopter receives the following benefits at Stroud and Animal Centre clinics.

  • A booster vaccination and health check once a year

  • Routine worming tablets

  • Routine flea treatments

  • Access to our Animal Centre vet during routine clinic times at a reduced cost per consultation

  • Regular newsletter which includes competitions, discounts at our charity shops, local offers, and pet advice

  • All current and future medication will be offered at a discounted price

  • Emergency hotline phone number in case the adopter has a personal emergency

  • Emergency cover if an owner is hospitalised i.e temporary 2 week foster care, dog walking and help with shopping for dog/cat food

  • Discount grooming

  • We may be able to help with cost of emergency treatment/elective surgery dependant on the funds available

  • Discount food from our Symply Range

  • Free VIP Invitations to our annual events.

If the adopter is no longer able to look after their SAS pet then they can be returned to us and to be rehomed again via the scheme.

Please check each individual animal profile for those that are eligible for SAS
